The University Circle area of Cleveland, Ohio has a lot of nice places for wedding photos. One of my favorites is the Italian Cultural Gardens of Cleveland. It has beautiful curved stone steps, stone walls, and of course the fountain! It is a great photo location surrounded by nice grounds for some shade, some nice trees, and there's that great shot overlooking the brick patio from the balcony above. It is close to the freeway and easy to get to. There are a host of other cultural gardens there as well to suite the many ethnic origins that Cleveland is made up of.

Fall Weddings

Weddings held in September & October can be some of the nicest events of the year. Weather conditions are often favorable - not too humid, not to cool but comfortable considering the dresses & tuxes that you will be dressed in. One of my nicest fall weddings was at The Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, Ohio in October. See The Ferrante wedding gallery on my website: LORENZOPICS.COM to view the photos. It was very picturesque and the weather was really nice so everyone was comfortable all day long. This made taking the photos on the grounds of the Arboretum a pleasure, as well as having Mike & Brenda to work with as they are easy going & fun & their photos reflect this. This is the type of wedding photography I really enjoy.

So if you are still in the planning stages of your wedding, consider a fall wedding as the weather and surroundings can really round out and make it an extra nice event!

There is a lot to consider when you look for a photographer for your special day. There are a lot of "so called" photographers out there who try to convince you they are a professional, and they undercut the market just to try & get the job. Things to be aware of before the to good to be true price comes along.

• First, be sure to view "enlarged" photos of 8x10 size to truly judge photo quality
• Remember anyone can make a photo look good on a website, it means very little.
• Backup equipment: Many non- professionals don't have back equipment, so what happens if their flash stops working?
  
• Insurance, does the photographer who gave you the "dream price" have insurance?
• Do their poses look professional such as the formal photos? Many amateurs or inexperienced photographers lack the detail needed to professionally pose people and this can really cheapen the look of your photos.
• Lens quality: Makes a huge difference in photo quality when you enlarge a photo. Do they have "pro grade" lenses, or do they use the consumer priced lenses? How many lenses do they have- will all your photos look the same because they only have one lens?
• How many weddings have they done? Three or several hundred?
• Don't trust the most important day in your life to a "wanna be photographer"

Planning the Pre-Ceremony Photography

When you are planning to have photography before your wedding to get those cherished photos there are some important things you need to consider: First, be sure you arrive in plenty of time so you don't rush to get ready, (that is never fun) Secondly, be sure all the important people who you want in your photos are there on time. As for flowers, don't forget to have your florist deliver your flowers for the pre-ceremony photos as well. Check out the ceremony location ahead of time to be sure there are accommodations for you to get dressed and have pre-ceremony photos. Bring a portable fan as some venues do not have air, or if they do many dressing grooms become warm because of all the people inside them. Bring plenty to drink especially if it's a wedding during the warmer weather. Have a designated person for "touch ups" of your hair and makeup to be sure you will look your best the entire day! Allow some time before the ceremony starts to relax and get ready for your important day. When you are photographing a subject who is back lit by window light behind them, the proper way to expose for this would be to meter the outdoor light and use "fill flash" to fill the subject to balance the exposure. You need to experiment as it can be a little tricky to learn the correct amount of "fill" needed to balance the exposure properly.

Photography Event Tips

When you are photographing any event you plan, be sure to do the following before you start:

• Be sure you have enough batteries
• Charge all batteries fully
  
• Check your backup equipment cameras, flashes etc for proper operation
• Have extra CF cards
• Clean your lenses - check for smudges etc
• Have a plan of what photos you want to capture
• Be organized & be ready for that unexpected photo
• Have fun!
